Cllr Shaun Gunner was first elected to Arun District Council in 2019, representing Rustington East since then. From 2019-2020 he was Shadow Cabinet Member for Technical Services, and since May 2020 has been Leader of the Conservative Group as Leader of the Opposition (2020-2021; 2023-present) and Leader of the Council (2021-2023).
Shaun has been Deputy Chairman Political and Campaigning of Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Conservatives since 2023. Shaun is an experienced campaigner and previously held the same role in Worthing West Conservatives, and acted as an election agent in the 2023 local elections, having previously been a paid political agent for the Conservatives in Brighton & Hove.
As Leader of the Council, Shaun worked on: the revamp of the High Street in Littlehampton; secured £19.2 million in Government funding to save the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis and transform Littlehampton seafront; retained weekly bin collections; allocated £2 million to a new sports hub in Angmering; saved both the Arundel Festival and Farmers' Market; kicked off the Bersted Brooks Park project; started the planting of 35,000 trees in the District; and helped our high streets with grants and support.
Shaun has lived in Rustington his whole life and works from home as a communications consultant. Outside of work and politics, he has been active in a number of charities, and enjoys reading (especially Tolkien) and Lego in his spare time.
