The Rt Hon Penny Mordant, MP and Secretary of State for International Development was our guest at an Association dinner held last Friday, 19th October, to celebrate Trafalgar Day. An appropriate choice because Penny is not only a Portsmouth girl but also a Royal Navy reservist. In a short address she enlightened us on little known aspects of Nelson’s life and reminded us of the debt we owe to him and others that followed. She went on to talk about her Department and the approach they are now adopting to make the distribution of overseas aid more effective.
